Purchasing a licence for CASPA

CASPA is supplied to schools and Local Authorities under licence.  CASPA is licensed on an annual basis, with an initial licence fee for the first year of use and then a reduced licence fee, based on one-third of the initial annual licence fee, in subsequent years.  Purchase of a CASPA licence entitles licensees to make use of the CASPA system and includes provision of comparative data, updates to CASPA during the licence period, support, analysis of anonymised data submitted by the licensee and provision of updated comparative data.

Two types of licence are available for CASPA, as detailed below:

Purchasing a Local Authority licence for CASPA

CASPA is usually licensed to Local Authorities who then have the right to use CASPA in any or all of their maintained educational establishments, be they special schools, special units, mainstreams or PRUs.

Where CASPA is licensed to a Local Authority, CASPA is delivered as two separate modules: the school data collection module of CASPA, designed to be installed in each school, and the Local Authority module, designed for a single central installation:

  • The school module is used by school staff for data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • The Local Authority module of CASPA replicates all of the reporting and analysis functionality of the school module, and allows all analysis and reporting to be run for a single school or all schools; the local authority module allows the authority to collect data from its schools to carry out authority-wide analysis and is also used to submit anonymised data for analysis to generate the comparative data set used by CASPA.

For more information on how the school and local authority modules work together, please click here.

Local Authority licence fees are based on the size of the Local Authority rather than the number of schools to which CASPA is deployed, so the wider the deployment, the lower the per-school cost.  However, even if you initially deploy CASPA in just your special schools, you will find purchasing a Local Authority licence will offer you a significant discount on the per-school cost compared to purchasing multiple single-school licences.  For details of costs for a Local Authority licence for CASPA, please contact us.

To allow us to offer these discounts, support arrangements for schools using CASPA under a LA licence differ from those for a single-school licensee; for more details, please refer to the section on Support in the Local Authority purchasing information section of the CASPA website.

Purchasing a single school licence for CASPA

Where appropriate, CASPA can be licensed to a single school, in which case support for CASPA is supplied directly by SGA Systems Limited.  A single-school licence allows unrestricted use of CASPA within a single school.  Licence fees for a single-school licence for CASPA are as follows:
  • Initial annual licence                                £2,400.00
  • Annual licence in subsequent year               £800.00
